LEAP DAY SPECIAL BLOG POST - No Fuss Colouring Technique Cards

It's the 29th of February and I'm going to celebrate this day which comes only once in four years....I don't know if my blog will still be running four years from now....so I've decided not to number my post for today....not only that,I'm sharing a special technique that I've learn't from the latest issue of Australian Cardmaking,Stamping and Papercraft magazine (Vol. 22 No.8)..

The no fuss colouring technique tutorial was by Marion Vagg and her card was so pretty....She has used the back of cling stamps to stamp with coloured ink first and then the right side with black ink.....now the thing we have to be really careful about is the fact that the stamp has to be a symmetrical one or else it won't work...

I got such good results from this technique that I went ahead and made two cards....The first one is a Hello card in which I have used my marigold stamp and in the second card I have used balloon stamps to make a Birthday card....

It's a great technique to teach kids as well....

Hope you liked my cards....

Today I'm sharing a bright and cheerful card....I'm pretty sure whoever receives this card is going to know that the sender was really thinking of them... :)

The card base is a bright orange colour and the top layer is plain yellow...I have embossed the top layer using the Lattice embossing folder....I then stamped the flowers and leaves on white cardstock and cut them out...I adhered them onto the card using adhesive foam squares....

I stamped the sentiment on a gold banner and layered another orange one underneath it...and finally added a few gold sequins to decorate the card..

Hope you liked it...

I love how this gift bag turned out so I'm really happy to share this with you today....

I have followed the tutorial by the fabulous Sam Donald and made this gift bag...It's a huge one and can hold heaps of stuff....Here's the link for her tutorial - It's My Party Huge Bag

Now I had to change the top folding part in the video....and that was because Sam has used a double sided paper which looks really pretty when folded out at the top....but I've used one sided printed paper and didn't want the plain white to show outside....so I've simply skipped that step, and folded the top part downwards and tied a string around it...

I have used two shades of green cardstock for the front panel....the top panel has a gold heat embossed message....and to decorate the panel I have punched out and adhered three small flowers from peach cardstock...

Hope you like my version of the bag...

Today I'm sharing another card for which I've created the background by stamping...

The card base is plain blue....and the top layer is white....I have used a small square-ish doily stamp and three different shades of blue ink and stamped the doily on it...I then added a strip of blue foil cardstock on one side and adhered a stamped sentiment as well....

To decorate the card I used the sequin dies with the same blue foil cardstock and adhered the various size die cuts randomly onto the card...

It's a simple card...but I hope you liked it...

Today I'm sharing a simple and elegant anniversary card.....

My Stampin Up demonstrator sent me a few goodies last month....some beautiful cardstock, some printed DSP and some embellishments...and this plain green cardstock caught my eye....It's such a pretty colour...I'm not familiar with SU paper colours but I think this one is called Pistachio Pudding(pls. correct me if I'm wrong)...

I have used gold cardstock as the base and the green as the mat...I wanted the green to show more so the top layer is quite smaller than the green one....

After rounding the corners of all the layers,I have stamped the top layer using Versamark Ink and a large Doily Stamp and then used a gold embossing powder to heat emboss it...I also stamped and gold embossed the 'Happy Anniversary' stamp on a banner punched out of the same green cardstock...

At the center of the doily stamp I have placed a large flower punched from gold cardstock with a rhinestone in the middle....

Hope you liked this card...

I really like creating backgrounds for my cards...I use watercolours, inks, embossing folders or stamps....the best part is that it makes the card unique....

The card I'm sharing today has a plain lavender card base and a white top layer....to create the patterned background for this card I have used a stamp set called Layer Away Dots Frames by Fiskars....the set has concentric circles and squares...for this card I just used the circles and stamped them randomly on the white top layer with various colours...

I die cut the word 'Happy' from purple foil cardstock and adhered it to the card....then stamped the word 'birthday' on a lavender strip of paper and placed it partially on the word 'Happy'...I have also used  a few lavender rhinestones  as embellishments...

Hope you liked this card...What do you think of the dotted circles background???

Over the past few months I have bought some Stampin Up tools like punches, trimmer, stencils etc. and I absolutely love them....but recently I bought a beautiful stamp and punch set called Balloon Celebration....In this card I have only used two of the stamps and the punch but there are so many stamps in this set that I'm sure I will be making quite a lot of cards from it...

The card base is brown and the top layer is pink which has been embossed using a chevron embossing folder...I then stamped and/or punched the various balloons and added a gold string  to all of them....once the ballons were attached to the card,I tucked the strings at the back of the top layer...

The sentiment has been stamped and cut out then placed on the top layer...Once the top layer was adhered to the card, I added a few star sequins as well....

Hope you like this card as much as I do....

Today I'm sharing a very simple Thank You card....

The card base is plain pink....the top layer watercolour style background has been created by using Twinkling H2O shade called Sugar Plum....once the watercolour was dry, I stamped the sentiment with green dye ink....

I then used a chevron die to die cut six different shades of green and adhered those to the top layer in a line....I really like the Avery Elle Chevron Bits dies...these die cuts can even be used as embellishments...

Once the top layer was adhered to the card base,I used a few green rhinestones to decorate the card...

Hope you like it..

I had thought of trying out this colour combination towards the end of last year....but it looked too Halloween-y at that time...Grey,Orange & Black look great together....and here's my card using these colours...

The card base is light grey and the top layer is orange....I have used a corner punch to round off all four corners of both layers....

To write the whole message on the card,I have split the message into three different peices.....First I stamped 'You Are So Sweet' with orange ink on a grey banner strip, then I heat embossed the '&' with silver embossing powder and finally I die cut the word 'lovely' with black glitter cardstock...

I have used a silver foil card stock and black adhesive pearls to punch a few flowers to decorate the card...

Hope you like this card....

Post#174 - Distress Inks,Stencils+Water Background Cards

I have followed a tutorial by Jennifer McGuire to create backgrounds for all these cards....I got quite excited by such a good result and went ahead and made a couple more cards using this technique...

Here is the link for the tutorial - Easy Distress Ink Backgrounds by Jennifer McGuire

It's an excellent video so there is no need for me to write down much details....

I did however mix a bit of twinkling H2O watercolour in my water spritzer for a shiny look as I do not have any other kind of pre-bottled shimmer spritzer etc....

The cards are only lightly decorated as the background is the hero in all these cards....

Hope you liked these cards...

Do you have a favourite??Let me know...

Post#173 - Happy Birthday Flowers Card

So while I had all the distress inks out to create yesterdays Valentine's card,I quickly created a background for a birthday card....

On a white card base I used a stencil and a few different distress inks to create the background....while the stencil was still in place,I rubbed on Versamark ink and then heat embossed it using clear embossing powder...this made the background waterproof as well as shiny...

I die cut a small white rectangle using the stitched die and adhered two flowers that I had coloured in and cut out...I placed this at the centre of the card using foam squares...I also placed a die cut 'happy birthday' near the top of the card...

To decorate the card,I have used clear sequins in various sizes....

Hope you liked this card...

Post#172 - Love You Bunches Valentine's Card

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone....Hope someone you love makes your day a special one....I'm sure all the card makers and crafters already have a few goodies ready for their loved ones...!!

I'm sharing my favourite card today....if you've been following my blog then you already know how I lack in confidence when it comes to colouring in stamped images....and with this one I was colouring in straight onto the top layer of the card...

The card base and top layer is plain white with all four corners rounded with a punch.....I then started preparing the top layer...First I stamped and coloured in the image and then masked it off...Then got out my distress inks and blended a few colours to make it look like ground....then I cut a scrap piece of paper and shaped it like a cloud and used blue distress ink to sponge it lightly at the edges to create the clouds....

I finally stamped the sentiment stamp in the middle of the card using red dye ink....to decorate the card I have used very tiny red hearts punched from glitter cardstock...

Hope you liked this card....

Post#171 Hearts Embossed Background card

I quite like the card that I'm sharing with you today....It has a few layers and things on it but it's not too full of stuff...

The base is made from plain dark pink cardstock.....and the top layer is plain white which has been embossed with love hearts embossing folder and then I wrapped around a silver string on it before attaching it to the card base...

I then added a few layers...the first one is a large stitched circle die cut from the same pink cardstock as the card base...the second one is a smaller stitched circle die cut from silver foil cardstock...Then I die cut a red heart and placed the die cut XOXO on it along with a couple of punched hearts...

Hope you liked this card...

Post#170 - Rainbow Hearts on Kraft Card

Today I'm sharing a simple card with a very sweet message....

The card base and top layer are made from Kraft cardstock...I have rounded only two sides of the card and top layer...on one side of the top layer I have attached a wide strip of Vellum Paper and another in red glitter cardstock above it.....on both of these I have used a heart border punch....

The sentiment has been stamped at the top right of the card using white pigment ink....and I punched two different sizes of hearts from coloured paper(prepared using peerless watercolors)....each heart has a tiny red rhinestone on it as well...

I hope you liked this card as much as I do...

I had a lot of fun planning and making this card....while I was looking through my stamps for something for Valentines Day,I came across these stamps with symbols of + and = and this became the main focus of my card....

It's a 5" square white card base with a plain bright red mat....the top layer is white and I have used a hearts mask and light pink ink to create a background....I then stamped the words 'you' and 'me' with red dye ink.....and I have gold heat embossed for the + = and 'forever' word stamps...

At the base of the top layer,I have added a strip each of gold glitter cardstock and pink glitter cardstock...at the top i have only used a gold glitter strip...I also punched a red heart  and placed it above the word 'forever'.....

Hope you liked this card...

After making a love themed card yesterday,I sat down to create more cards for Valentines....and then realised that I don't have a single stamp that says 'Happy Valentine's Day'...and it is already too late to order stuff online...so I am doing the best I can with all the stuff I do have...

Today's card has a plain white card base and the top layer has a background created by using distress inks...I then die cut heart balloons in a few different colours and stuck them on the top layer....for the balloon strings, I simply used a red glitter gel ink pen and a ruler...

I die cut the word 'Love You' from red glitter cardstock as well as a couple from white cardstock and glued them together before placing it on the card...I have also used white adhesive pearls on the card as embellishments...

Hope you liked this card....

Valentines day is just a week away and I just realised that I have not made as many cards as I had thought I would....Better late than never...so I'm starting now...

The base of the card is plain blue and the top layer is white....On the top layer I have stamped the large word 'love' with red dye ink....I then used a lot if bright coloured inks to stamp various flower stamps on only two sides of the card...

I die cut the word 'Love' from blue glitter cardstock and kept it aside....Then I die cut the same word from the top layer and replaced and inset the blue one in it....I have used light blue adhesive pearls in various sizes as embellishments...

Hope you liked this card...

This is a pocket fold card holder made by following the tutorial and instructions on the Inking Idaho blog by Becky Roberts.....here is the link for the Pocket Fold which creates two pockets on the project...one one each side....

You don't need to do any cutting or gluing to create this pocket..it's a paper folding technique....all you need is a small circle punch so once you have created the pocket, you can punch at the top and thread the ribbon through to hold both sides together....

I have made two small cards to go inside each of the pockets but you could very easily use individually wrapped tea bags or some other gifts...

Hope you liked this...

I have this printed paper with hearts and 'hello' printed in various languages and I was going to use it as the top layer for this card....it would've looked good but I changed my mind and decided to cut out all the words and place them individually on the top layer of the card...

I started with a pale pink card base and a white top layer....After stamping the typewriter at the base of the top layer,I randomly stamped hearts with light pink ink....I also coloured in the typewriter and stamped a heart and the word 'Hey' on it...

I rounded only two corners of each of the cut outs and sponged them with tattered rose distress ink before placing them on the card...I used the same distress ink to sponge the top layer and the card base...

White adhesive pearls have been used as the only embellishments on this card...

Hope you liked it...

Today I'm sharing a card that can be given for any special occasion....it can be for a birthday or an anniversary or any other happy event....

The card base is plain yellow....and the top layer has been created using four different distress inks and blending them slightly on a watercolour cardstock...

To decorate the four corners of the top layer I cut two squares out of gold glitter cardstock and cut them diagonally to create these triangular corners...In the middle I have a die cut frame from the same cardstock...the sentiment has been stamped on a yellow piece and die cut and adhered in the middle of the frame..

I used a gold metallic marker to colour in the tiny adhesive pearls that have used as the only embellishments on the card....the glitter cardstock makes it quite attractive and I did not want it to clash with other types of embellishments...

Hope you liked this card...

Post#163 Rainbow Butterflies Birthday Card & Card Box

I had so much fun making this card....it has bright colours and lots of butterflies....a perfect card for my cheerful little girl who's turning 10 today....

The card base is 5"x 7" made from plain pink cardstock....the top layer is plain pink as well...there is a large banner at the top made from silver glitter cardstock with the sentiment heat embossed with white embossing powder....

For all the butterflies,I coloured in seven 2'' square pieces of paper with rainbow shades of watercolours....once dry,I die cut the large butterflies and punched out the smaller ones....I attached a rhinestone on each of these butterflies and adhered them onto the top layer of the card....

Now that the card was ready,I realised that I needed a kind of a box for it as a normal envelope would flatten all the butterflies on it...so I started looking for ideas and went through a few tutorials...and it was then I came across the BOX BUSTER on The Crafty Owl website....

Once you enter the details of the box you require, this Box Buster will calculate the size of paper required to create the box as well the the first and second punch....

For larger boxes it does warn you that the paper will overhang the envelope punch board so please be careful....I did not face this problem since the 1 2 3 Punch board has an extendable arm and I can easily score the full length....

There is also a video tutorial as well - How to use the Box Buster App for any size box by Crafty Owl

My card sits perfectly in this envelope box that I created with printed paper....I also attached a couple of butterflies on the front of the box...

Hope you liked this card...Don't forget to bookmark the link for the Box Buster....

Post#162 No Cut,No Stick Box Idea by Pootles

At first I just saw a picture of this box by Sam and really couldn't believe that it was a no cut no stick box....it didn't look like one...then I saw the tutorial video and tried it out myself....it's more of a paper folding technique and creates a very nice size box....

The box is 2"x 7" in size so it can hold quite a wide variety of goodies in it...especially things like stationery items...

Here is the link for the tutorial for this box - No Cut No Stick Box by Sam Hammond

I have used plain blue cardstock to make the box and printed pink paper for the DSP panels....then I stamped the sentiment on a 1" banner punched from silver cardstock and another two from the same cardstock I used to make the box...then I attached all them using a brad and stuck them to the front of the box..

Do try this box...you'll be pleased with the results...
